Gerakas and Dafni
The east side of the peninsula of Vassilikos is part of the Maritime park to protect the caretta caretta turtle. Hidden away and only to be reached by a steep dirt track is the sandy beach of Dafni.
Due to some rock formations rising up out of the sea it is a marvellous place for snorkelling. A bit further on, at the most southern end of Zakynthos, lays the long stretched sandy beach of Gerakas.
No facilities are to be found on the beach, it simply just offers splendid soft yellow sand with a shallow clear sea. Dark brown clay bluffs form the end of the long beach, here mud from clay and salty seawater form the perfect ingredients for a reviving mud bath.
On both beaches you will have to biggest chance to actually see a loggerhead turtle hatch
