On the road bounding north to the port of Agios Nikolaos is the lovely beach of Makris Gialos. This fairly small beach with smooth shingle is concealed by cliffs around. Small caves can be reached from this beach, ideal for the adventurous to seek out and discover. From here several vessels operate a guided service to the nearby blue caves.
