The arable land of Zakynthos is very suitable for cultivating fruits. Wintertime mainly a very wet season and the porous limestone soil stocks up this water. Fruit trees and plants are therefore abundant on the island. Depending on the period of harvest fresh fruits are being sold everywhere along the road. A local fruit cocktail can consist of strawberries, lemons, limes, oranges, kiwis, apricots, peaches, apples, watermelons, sugar melons, grapes, pears, figs, berries, tangerines, dates, pomegranates and nectarines.
