Almost every household on Zakynthos grow their own vegetables in their garden. Due to the excellent climate conditions and fertile soil, vegetables grow fast and many are harvested several times per season. Local dishes are composed with ingredients which are cultivated on the island itself. Most popular crops are tomatoes, aubergines, courgettes, garlic, unions, spinach, asparagus, pumpkins, cucumbers, carrots, broccoli and peppers.
