High up into the mountains of Zakynthos colourful beehives are scattered throughout the area. At springtime the fields are veiled with a colour scale of wild flowers. From this nectar a light brown blossom honey is made. The rocky parts of the area are covered with herbs. Scents of thyme, oregano, aniseed and basil dominate the air. From the pollens an other type of honey is made, a dark brow thyme honey. The honey is still produced in a traditional way to guarantee its purity and freshness. Beekeepers cherish their honey but also sell their liquid gold on site
