Sweets
Sweets form an important part of the local cuisine, consumed as starter and deserts. In every village pastry shops, sagroplastios, are to be found with large selection of confectionery. Well known Greek pastries are baklava and kataifa, very sweet phyllo dough cakes with chopped nuts and sweetened with honey. Local Zakynthian delicacies are fytoura and pasteli, both made of roasted sesame and honey. Also mandolato is very popular amongst the locals, which is a tasty nougat made of egg white, honey, sugar and almonds
