The top of a scenic hill between Zakynthos town and hotel Lesante is called Lofos Strani. In 1821 the Greeks fought for independence from the Turks. On this hill the bombing could be heard from as far as the mainland town of Messolonghi.

Here the Zakynthian poet Dionysios Solomos sat and wrote his famous freedom lyrics, which later became the words of the national anthem. Next to the statue of Solomos is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the tranquillity and panoramic view over the plain of Zakynthos
