The island of Zakynthos is one of the most visited island of Greece, and not without a reason. While it is a small island and distances relative, it offers for everyone everything. That is why Zakynthos is by far the most diverse tourist destination of Greece. The island has lots of different types of beaches with modern facilities. It is the breading ground for the Caretta Caretta loggerhead turtle and therefore of major ecological importance. Also the variety of landscape scenery is spectacular. Tall limestone cliffs dominate the east coastline, the fertile plain resembles the garden of Eden and the rural mountains are covered with lush and green pine forests.

The island has been ruled by various nationalities, and they all felt home. Out of appreciation the Venetians named the island “the flower of the Levant”.
