Keri Caves
Around of the peninsula of Keri, on the south-west of Zakynthos, one encounters stunning coastline. This part is only within reach of small boats, which can sail through high arches underneath steep limestone cliffs. Everywhere there are caves, cracks and tunnels to swim in.
The emptiest beaches of the island are to be found here, clear blue seas with a white pebble ground makes the water surreal azure of colour. For snorkelling and diving the Keri coast is a true underwater paradise. Reefs and secret passages between cave chambers go deep into the mountain. This unique landscape is also home for the almost extinct monarchs seal. Zakynthos is the only place in the entire Mediterranean where these monk seals are still to be found.
At the end of the exotic formations and impressive cliffs one could navigate through two giant rocks called Mitzitres. The legend tells if you look into each other eyes while passing between these rocks, one stays together for ever.
Due to the remoteness of the area the Keri caves are a splendid alternative for the more crowded blue caves. With the harbour of Limni Keri as starting point, it is a guaranteed fantastic day.
